Humberto's obituary
With profound pain in our minds, hearts, and souls we regret to inform of the tragic and untimely passing of Humberto “Bert” Alfonso Ruiz of Tamarac, Florida this past Thursday, September 26th 2024 at the age of Seventy. Bert was an Everyman, Salt of the Earth, ‘humble and uncomplicated’ as he often put it with his infectious grace and warm smile. He lived a life in service to others, in service to God. Bert would give you the shirt off his back, walk hand in hand with you, pray with you, and put you at ease in any circumstance with his witty charm and loving compassion. In recent years he profoundly grieved the tragic passings of his beloved parents, Judith and Alfonso Ruiz of Bogotá, Colombia and his beloved eldest son Phillip Alfonso Ruiz of White Plains, NY, along with dearly missed friends and family members who had also crossed the threshold. Bert was born in Bogotá, Colombia in the early fifties and grew up around majestic cities and whimsical villages, like Pacho, Tibasosa, and Zipaquirá in the Boyacá, Río Negro, and Cundinamarca provinces of his Tierra Querida de Colombia. A gifted writer, he expressed his deep love for nature, humanity, and the grand mysteries, adventures, and misadventures of ordinary individuals, families, and their labyrinthine lives of kaleidoscopic potency. A gifted footballer and loyal fan throughout his entire life, he found deep joy and unifying power in the beautiful game. Su Selección Cafetera siempre la llevaba en su pecho. Bert carried in his peaceful loving heart and is survived by his spouse Ethel Woodman of Capetown, South Africa, his former spouse Elva Marina Gutiérrez Ruiz of Bogotá, Colombia, his beloved grandchildren, Nicole Karina Ruiz Rivera of Sleepy Hollow, NY and Leonard Marshall Ruiz Mora of San Juan del Río, Querétaro, México, his son Daniel Humberto Ruiz of Plantation, FL and many beloved family and friends across borders everywhere.
Humberto Alfonso Ruiz will be profoundly missed , please join us to celebrate his life and mourn his passing Monday, October 14th 2024 at 11AM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 South State Road 7 North Lauderdale, Florida 33068 (Church Entrance, follow signs to Cemetery)
