Hugo L. Sobo of Gilbert, Arizona passed away peacefully on November 27, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. Funeral Service will be held this Friday, December 1, 2017 at Community Church in Mesa, followed by an open house life celebration at his daughter’s house.
Hugo was born in Los Angeles, California on July 8, 1953 to Sam and Irene Sobo. He attended Arizona State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He had a long career working for the state of Arizona in the Department of Economic Security, first in administration and later in IT support. He enjoyed building customized computers for many of his friends and family. He also spent many years as a part time DJ. He married Carol McNeil on July 19, 1991. He raised and was the loving stepfather to Erin, Samuel, and Joseph Coffey. He loved sports and had many favorite teams (but loved to hate the Dodgers more than anything). He loved his pugs, Mel Brooks movies and music. He enjoyed spending time with his good friends participating in a football pool for over 20 years.
Hugo was known for his offbeat sense of humor and eye-roll producing jokes. He had bellowing laugh that was contagious. His family and friends would tell you that he was a generous, loving man with a huge heart.
Hugo is survived by his wife, Carol, their children, Erin (Dave), Sam (April) and Joe (Sara), his three grandsons Colin, Tommy, and Emmitt and another grandson on the way, his sister, Blanche (Gary), and his brothers, Simon (Sandi) and Lee (Barbara).
