Hugh, Hughie, Hoot, Springo, Dad, Pa, GGPa... was born on 28th March 1939 in Cremorne, Sydney. His father David Fitzgerald Spring was the pharmacist at the Cremorne Wharf pharmacy during the years of WWII but the family (David and Anne, nee Whettam, Hugh and younger sister Patricia, Trish) moved to Wellington in the Central West of NSW on the advice of doctors when Hugh was 6 to improve his bronchial asthma.
