Howard's obituary

Howard Douglas Sheriff, 65, of Denver, CO, passed away on December 31, 2001, after a six-year battle with early onset dementia.

Howard was born on June 23, 1956, to Maj. Donald and Mrs. Darlene Sheriff in Chicopee, MA. After graduating from Piper High School in Kansas City, KS, in 1974, he joined the US Army and served in Korea performing radio intelligence operations before he went on to receive a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Kansas in 1981.

Howard spent his career in the chemical and petroleum engineering field, working at the Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant in Lawrence, KS, and the Coffeyville Resources Oil Refinery in Coffeyville, KS. He also briefly worked at a consulting company, traveling to China and Saudi Arabia to help build new chemical plants.

Howard was a devoted father to his daughter, Bonnie, whom he solely raised after his divorce. Bonnie followed in her father's academic footsteps and received degrees in Chemistry from the University of Kansas and the California Institute of Technology.

Howard enjoyed studying astronomy, reading science fiction novels, and practicing classical guitar as hobbies. He also enjoyed having cats as pets and spending time with his grandchildren.

Anyone who knew Howard knew that he was a loving father and a gentle and kind man. Howard was predeceased by his father, Donald Sheriff, his mother, Darlene Sheriff, and his brother, R. Earl Sheriff. He is survived by his sisters, Melanie Proctor and Kathy Lathrom, his daughter, Bonnie Kean, and his grandchildren, Eleanor and William Kean.

The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Bonnie Kean, 2705 Xanthia St, Denver, CO 80238. There will be a memorial service at his assisted living facility, Juniper Village at Aurora (11901 E Mississippi Ave, Aurora, CO 80012), on January 27th, 2022, at 10 am.
