Howard's obituary

Howard K Neils born August 11, 1933 to Bernard and Olive Neils (Mitchell) passed away February 15, 2024 at the age of 90.

Married to Lorraine Neils (Brohl) for 67 years. Loving father to Cindy (Brian) Schultz, Gregg (Donna) Neils and Tammy (Willie) Conant. His legacy extends through his Cherished Grandchildren: Stephanie, Lindsey, Joe, John, Melanie, Justin, Jeremy, Chris, Samantha and Nick and Great Grandchildren: Kadence, Payton, Sophia, Jaxon, Emily, Christian, Charlotte, Zoey and Valerie. Dearest brother of Shirley Gryder. Preceded in death by his brother Bernard Neils. Survived by many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Howard spent two years serving his country in the Navy before he was married. He worked in the tool and die industry supporting his family. In his free time and during 25 years of retirement he travelled the world, enjoyed golfing, fishing both in the summer and ice fishing in the winter in Canada, hunting including a trip to Africa on a safari. He was a longtime member of the Macomb Township Lions and served as President from 1994 – 1995 and again from 1998 – 1999. He was recognized for his dedicated humanitarian services with the Melvin Jones Fellowship award through the Lions foundation and was actively involved with the Carpathia Club for many years. Howard also loved spending time with his family at the Lake in Sugar Springs.

Most of all Howard loved any occasion to spend with his Family. Not a gathering would pass without him saying “we have such a great family”. His kindness and unconditional love touched the lives of everyone he knew, and he will be deeply missed. In his final days nothing brought more joy than a visit with family, Ritz crackers and cheese, Twizzlers Red licorice and a Labatt Blue Ribbon beer.

A private memorial will be held at a later date with cremation and entombment at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
