Dave's obituary

Howard David “Dave” Lovell, 78, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away February 08, 2023, at home surrounded by his family after a long health battle. He was born in Kenton, Kentucky, to Donald Clay Lovell and Margaret Francis Reed on August 26, 1944. He grew up in Kenton with his three brothers, Carl Thomas Lovell, James Alan Kinman, and Jarell R. Kinman, and sister, Peggy Titus.

He graduated from Simon Kenton High School with the class of 1963, where he developed lifelong friendships and met the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Sandra Marlane Martin, whom he married on March 01, 1965. His childhood was an idyllic time in his life, which he recalled fondly.

He worked for General Electric (GE) as a technical technician for 30 years. During his time with GE, he travelled to many places including remote areas such as Alaska and Aruba. His work inspired his love of travel, which he often did with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He loved travelling to national parks, national monuments, and attempting many of the nation’s all you can eat contests.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved being surrounded by nature and family, his two favorite things. He was usually found working outside with his hands on one of his many projects. He passed his knowledge of general handman skills, even if it was not always done by code, down to his two sons, who were always by his side while he was working on projects. He was an avid gardener and was constantly battling birds, rabbits, and deer for his prized tomatoes. When he was not outside he was usually cooking an extravagant meal, some of which his grandchildren remember fondly due to their unique and sometimes ‘yucky’ tastes or smells including, calamari, turkey livers, and his favorite spam. He had an amazing memory and told entertaining stories, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration. Even in his last few days, he told stories from throughout his life, and recalled the many canoeing trips he took with his family and the various elaborate costumes he and his wife dressed up in for their favorite holiday, Halloween.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Marlane Lovell; son, David James (Jamie) Lovell and wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Daniel James Lovell and wife, Rebecca, and Lindsey Marlane Felton and husband, Andrew; great-grandchildren, Hannah May Lovell, John David Lovell, and James Finley Felton; siblings, James Alan Kinman and wife, Caroline, and Peggy Titus and husband, Jim; as well as beloved cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his son, Gary Thomas Lovell, and his brothers, Carl Thomas Lovell and Jarell Kinman.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at a later date. Visit https://everloved.com/life-of/howard-lovell/ for more details. Dave was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of Christ Church of Prescott Valley, Arizona. He would want any donations to be made there, or please see the above link for other options.
