Howard's obituary
Howard B. Adkins, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in Devine, Texas. Born on April 6, 1950, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Howard was a long time resident of Gatesville, Texas. Howard lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Howard was the son of Henry Adkins and Grandis Lenken, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity from an early age. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanie Margaret Havelka Adkins, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage that lasted 44 years. Joanie was not just his wife but his best friend, the love of his life, and their bond was an example of true partnership and devotion. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Margie Cameron, and his parents, Grandis and Henry, as well as his brother, BD Adkins.
Howard is survived by his devoted daughter, Stephanie Smith, who has always been a source of pride and love for him. He leaves behind a legacy in his grandchildren: Kaitlyn Danielle Buendia, Michelle Cook, Seth Carpenter, and Christopher Rash, who have all been blessed by his wisdom and warmth. Howard was also a proud great-grandfather to Joseph Michael Rodriguez, William James Smith, Remi Davis, Thomas Davis, Levi Wilson, and River Carpenter. Each of these children brought immense joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Tereseanna Cook, who was his wifes best friend and caretaker for several years. Whom, he thought of like a daughter. Her kindness and support were a blessing to him and his family, and they are grateful for the support she offered during his final years.
Howard loved baseball and football, his favorite teams included the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Rangers. He loved old rock, classic cars, collecting coins and listening Stevie Nicks. He was often referred to as the Happy Hippie.
The family wishes to thank everyone who has offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. Howard’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Howard’s life will be planned at a later date at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jarrell, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to your local charity in his honor, reflecting the love he had for his community and those in need.
Rest in peace, Howard. You are now reunited with Joanie, and your spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
