Background
On sept 22,2020 at the age of 8 years old. Honest was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma , my whole world came crashing down, a parent worse nightmare because he was born healthy at 9pds 2oz. I had to quit my job as a healthcare provider to fully support my son through this process. We started chemotherapy treatment immediately after the diagnosis. We stayed in the ICU for 43 days before we were sent home in Nov 2020 . We finished chemotherapy and radiation treatments in 2021 and the MRI results came back as good . We were in remission for 6months. On Jan 11 2022, Honest was complaining about a headache but, only on the right side of his head. I took him to the ER to get checked out and they wanted to do a CT scan because of his history with cancer. The CT scan results show that the cancer had came back, my heart dropped and I had to tell my son the worse news of his life that the cancer had return and we will have to do treatment again. We began treatment immediately in Jan 2022, due to the side effects of chemotherapy we lived at the hospital. In March of 2023 we noticed that the chemotherapy wasn’t working and that Honest’s head shape on the right side started to change . At this point Honest made the decision that he didn’t want to do anymore chemotherapy and as a parent I had to respect his wishes. We stopped treatment and just monitored him throughout the months. I started looking into holistic treatment and started that as well. In May 2023, we started radiation treatment for 3 weeks unfortunately it wasn’t successful and the tumor started growing rapidly on his right side of his head afterwards. In August 2023 I made the difficult decision to put my only child on hospice care, he enjoyed playing on his iPad, watching YouTube videos, movies , and playing with his Chihuahua dog to pass the time. On Sept 28, 2023 we celebrated his 12th birthday surrounded by his loved ones, he was so happy . On Oct 24, 2023 @9:09am Honest was called home to be with our lord and savior, he’s no longer suffering and knowing that alone is what’s giving me peace to continue living each day even with a aching heart.
