Homer's obituary
Homer Lee Holliday Jr. went to heaven on February 5, 2026. He was born on October 1, 1943, in Illinois to his parents, Homer Lee Holliday and Clarinda Bernice Stone.
Homer was an outstanding athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, lettering in all three sports. His dedication, discipline, and competitive spirit were evident both on and off the field.
In 1960, Homer married the love of his life, Joann Sheldon. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, commitment, and family.
Homer and Joann were blessed with three children: Sherri Dahl (Arlyn), Steve Holliday (Amy), and Eric Holliday. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Derek Dahl, Mathew Holliday, Dylan Dahl, Brady Holliday, Riley Holliday, Brooke Holliday, Trent Holliday, and Ellie Holliday. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Larissa Gonzales, Madison Dahl and Avery Dahl.
Homer began his career with Sutherland’s Lumber in 1959, where he managed multiple stores over his 32 year career. He then transitioned to Ace Hardware, where he continued to work in management for more than 30 years. Homer was a respected worker known for his incredible work ethic, engaging personality, and genuine friendship with those he worked alongside.
When Homer and Joann moved to Kansas City, Joann opened a home daycare that welcomed children with open hearts and created an additional family. Homer cherished his role as “PaPa Homer” to all of the daycare kids: Kyla, Miranda, Mitch, Matthew, Tori, Becca, Paige, Kyle, Eric, Alex, Ryan, Max, Ellie, Cassidy, Katie, Lexi, Aubrey, Diego, Jake, Lilly, Corrine, Daphne, Amaya, Greta, Grady, Anna, Alex, and Aidan. His warmth, patience, and genuine love left a lasting impact on every child who passed through their home.
Homer loved spending time watching sports with his family. His favorite teams were the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Tech football. He also enjoyed classic cars, movies, barbequing with family, and most of all, being with Joann.
Homer will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and the joy he found in life’s simple moments. His legacy of love, loyalty, and kindness will live on through generations.
