Hoang's obituary
In Loving Memory of Hoang Huy To
February 9, 1962 – November 25, 2025
With heavy hearts, our family shares the passing of Hoang Huy To, who left us on November 25, 2025, at the age of 63. Hoang was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth and gracious spirit touched everyone he met.
Born on February 9, 1962, in Saigon, Vietnam, Hoang immigrated to Aurora, Colorado, in 1975 with his parents and six siblings. As a young boy in Vietnam, Hoang loved playing soccer and would often forgo chores and homework to sneak away and play with neighborhood kids. His lightning speed and mental toughness made him a formidable opponent and a sought-after teammate. Hoang continued playing soccer in Colorado, and during his senior year of high school, he helped his team reach the state championships. Beyond his lifelong love of sports, Hoang was an amazing chef, a talented singer, and a sharp dresser who had an eye for fashion and style.
Hoang received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Technology from DeVry University (’84). While he was proud of this accomplishment, he realized that the technical field was not where his heart belonged. Hoang was driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and longed for opportunities beyond the confines of a 9 -5 job where he could be independent, creative, and passionate about the work. He was a dreamer who believed in possibilities even when the path was uncertain and he was not afraid to work hard to achieve his dreams. But like all journeys, his was not without trials. There were seasons of uncertainty, setbacks, and moments when the weight of challenges felt overwhelming.
Throughout it all, Hoang found strength and peace in faith, converting to Catholicism and embracing it with unwavering devotion. Prayer became his anchor during difficult times, and his trust in God gave him the courage to keep moving forward. His life was a testament to resilience, faith and hope.
Hoang is survived by his mother, Mrs. To Tien Phat; his son, Nikolas To; his siblings Luong (Laura), Phuong (Te), Chi (Dung), Thang, Dai (Greg), and Bobby (Michele); and his nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish their memories of “Bác/Cậu Hoang’s” delicious and exotic dishes that he prepared for family and holiday gatherings. His presence will be deeply missed, but his quiet spirit and the love he expressed through his cooking and songs will live on in our hearts forever.
His funeral service will be held at Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center – Citrus Heights, CA on Monday, December 15, 2025, with visitation/viewing at 1:00 PM and Catholic mass at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider sharing your condolences and prayers on this website or writing a personal note regarding a memory of Hoang to be shared with his son Nikolas and family.
