My name is Ken Miyagishima, Hersey was my oldest brother's friend. I first met Hersey when I was a city councilman and running for Mayor in 2007. I knew it was a going to be a close race, trying to unseat the incumbent. Hersey came to Veterans Park to meet our veterans and to ask for their support of my candidacy. Having a hero like Hersey and a MOH at that, elevated my standing with the local veterans. There were at least 100 people there and in the end, I won by 74 votes. I have to credit Hersey with helping me win the mayor's seat in 2007. God Bless Hersey and his family.
Deep condolences to the family of best example of patriotic service and courageous duty.  Gratified and honored to have received an autographed book and to have done a short interview for a NMJACL Gallup event.  Appreciated humbleness about his military activities, more focused on remembering the service by all veterans.
My prayers to the family. Hershey was an amazing man. I was honored to know him.

I remember the day like it was yesterday.  It was a beautiful day, Hershey was the Grand Marshall of the Nisei Week Parade.  I was taking photos of him with others, as they were getting ready to start the parade.  I introduced myself to say hello, "Hi, I'm Teresa, Mas Takahashi's daughter."  His response was priceless and so heartfelt, "Mas?  Where's Mas?!"  I told him he was in the jeep for the parade.  He broke the photo op line, telling me "they can't start without me!", and ran over to find my Dad.  It was so great to see their comeraderie.  Dad passed the following year, but I always think of that day and their long friendship.💞  Later, in Las Vegas, at our 100th btn mini-reunion, Hershey and Kelly sat with me for a visit as we played slot machines.  That was an incredibly special moment for me, talking and being with Dad's friend, missing Dad so much.  RIP Hershey, give Dad a big hug from me.  My heroes! XO
To all the family, my deepest sympathies. I was honored to serve with Hershey on The Hometown Heroes Board for over 15 years under the direction of BG Michael Cody. I will never forget his kindness, patriotism and love for Teri and his family. God bless you all as you honor a wonderful man. Paul Layer

Mike, Pat, Kelly, and Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.

Tracie and Dean DiGregorio

Terri, my condolences to you and your family. Hershey was a close friend for 54 years. My wife and I traveled across these great United States with Hershey and your mother "Terry" on numerous occasions. Our Country has lost a Great American, and I have lost a wonderful friend. God Bless you and your family. James "Jim" Taylor, CMH
My family offers its deepest condolences, My sibling and I shared a story of routinely going to get gas with my father who is a Vietnam Veteran, Cecil Pinto, Sr. when we were younger. Our grand fathers, the late Senator John Pinto, Navajo Code Talker, the late Alex Dennison, retired Air Force Staff Sergeant, and the late Pahe Denet Yazzie, Navajo Code Talker and Mr. Peel who all would visit with Mr. Miyamura at the station for service. Those thoughts make me tear up as I miss them so. Prayers and Blessings to you and yours.

Mr. Miyamura was the most remarkable man I have ever met.  Just being in the room with him made me feel like all was right with the world.

I will be forever grateful for the day he spent in my classroom at Gallup High School encouraging my struggling students.

They hung on his every word, and I could see that each and every one of them was inspired and honored to meet him and receive his words of wisdom.

What an honor it was to witness Hershey reaching out to those troubled teenagers, and to feel the impact of his words.

He was a true hero, in battle and in life.

Thank God for such  wonderful man.
