Herb's obituary
It is with great sadness that we remember the passing of Herbert Vincent Peterson Sr (Herb), a beloved father, brother, and friend to many. On Saturday, June 4, 2022, he left this world surrounded by his lifelong best friend under the shade of a magnificent tree that stood tall and proud.
Herb was born to Mary Elizabeth and Herbert Fiske on November 21, 1954, in Evergreen Park, Chicago. Despite moving to Indiana as a child, Herb remained fond of his birthplace, frequently visiting the city and later returning to live as an adult. An avid fan of wisecracks, big laughs, and causing good mischief, Herb continuously made people smile and cut up. His joyous personality and character he played effortlessly resonated with the Chicago art scene, which birthed his love of all things art and design. Herb shared his artistic passion and love of seeing the world upside down with anyone who came in contact. Among the many loves Herb possessed, it was in Indiana where his fondness of boating and lake life flourished into a lifestyle. Due to spending much of his childhood on the serene banks of Lake Wawasee, Herb eventually moved to the lake full-time and became a local celebrity because of his passion for lakeside karaoke.
Herb enjoyed life to the fullest. He cherished his friends, family, children, and grandchildren. Herb's lifelong best friend and second wife, Janet, remained close to him and an essential part of his life. In his last days, he spent quality time with his partner, Julia Hanberg, cooking delicious meals, boating, and relaxing in his pool. Survived by Herb is his second wife, Janet (Larry); children Amy, Herb Jr (Heidi), Margaret, and Christopher; and grandchildren, Lex and Kol, Harper, Emerson, and Finnegan; his brother Tom (Ginia); sisters, Mary Beth (Jim), Peppy, Cathy, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his younger sister, Monica (d. 2008), his first wife, Laura (d. 2022), and his partner later in age, Julia (d. 2022).
Herb will always be remembered for his huge heart, contagious smile, and consistent dedication to the people he loved the most. Although he is no longer with us, his memory, humor, and exciting stories will continue to live on in the hearts of those lucky enough to know and love him.
As of now, the immediate family has planned a private memorial celebration of life and wishes to exhibit Herb's personal portfolio publicly in the next few years.
