Henry Gilbert Beatson, 74, of Woodbridge, VA passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021 at home with his wife and loved ones by his side.

Henry was born on February 3, 1947 to Arthur and Vera Beatson in Rangoon, Burma. After graduating from St. Jude’s Academy in 1965, he went on to study Business Administration at Rangoon University.

Henry served as a Merchant Seaman on a West German Vessel where he worked his way up from a Deck Cadet to Third Officer before immigrating to the United States and having a successful career in security until his retirement in 2019 from International Union of Operating Engineers in Washington, D.C. Henry was not only fluent in several languages but had many notable career accomplishments. He could speak, read, and write in Burmese, English, and German, and converse in Japanese, Spanish, and Norwegian. Henry was also the author of pamphlets on loss prevention and security; recognized by the Fairfax Board of Education for his role in their Student Summer Work Program; and collaborated with the Falls Church Virginia Police to acquire toys for children in need. Still, his most memorable attributes were his sense of humor, generosity, wisdom, and loving nature.

In 1989, he met Linda Howell Beatson, and they wed in 1995. After retiring, Henry was happiest spending his time at home with his wife, fur-babies Mi-Mi and Goldie, and enjoying visits with family.

Henry was predeceased by his mother, Vera Suzette Beatson, and his father-in-law, James Thomas Howell. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Brandon Joshua Beatson; stepson, Samuel Louis Rutter; stepdaughter, Linda Marie (Nathan) McDaniel; grandsons, Ian Sutton, Ezekiel Shine, and Maddox Moses; father, Arthur Mackintosh Beatson; sister, Ruby June Beatson; brother, Brian Peter (Jennifer) Beatson; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Howell (John) Collins, Dana Howell, and Sharon Howell Faulk; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.

The family is receiving guests at the home Henry shared with his wife Linda in Woodbridge, VA on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 4-7pm. Food will be provided by Henry’s dear friends at IL Porto Italian Ristorante.

He will be laid to rest this week at Mt. View Cemetery in Bristol, VA on December 16, 2021 at 3pm. Friends and family are invited to show their respects at the graveside service and to celebrate his life at the home of Henry’s sister-in-law, Dana Howell, at the reception to follow. Food will be provided by family. Services will be provided by Miller Funeral Home of Woodbridge, VA.
