Heman's obituary
> Heman " Doc" Harris, 84, of Moncton, NB, Canada passed away [unexpectedly] on February 19, 2026 after stroke- related complications.
He is survived by his partner, wife, sons, daughter, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born in Newfoundland to Henry reuben and Alice Harris. Hemans siblings: Johnny, Irene, Raymond, Cecil, Melita and Mable have all passed on before him. In his younger years, Heman has travelled across every corner of the U.S. and Canada by many different means, including hitchhiking and jumping trains, during which he met poet and writer Shel Silverstein, among other characters.
Later, Worked in zoos handling leopards, chimpanzees and exotic animals where he met his 1st wife. Taking her and her sons together, having a son and daughter early on themselves.
Heman was also a carpenter building houses and specialized in remodeling old homes. He could build you a house from "footer to shingle" and was a master of finding the solutions to unique problems arising in remodeling 100+ year old homes.
Heman was an avid artist and lover of all things nature. His favorite medium was anything he could cut, bend or paint on. Heman regularly participated in many Art festivals and shows across the country. Traveling for weeks with his "Dot Art" made of upcycled metal and meticulously painted in a myriad of tiny dots of colour. Always animal and nature themed of course. He would then return to his studio to create new pieces for the following festival seasons.
Animals would approach and befriend Heman easily and often. Any critter was a friend, whether wild or tame. Rescuing injured or orphaned animals was a regular event in the Harris house. Having at one point in time, raccoons, dogs and cats living together with the kids too. We met Owls, wolves, foxes and snakes often during regular walks through woods or, paddling around the ponds.
Heman has written and published many short stories, articles, regular pages and several books in many varied publications. Camping and the wilderness always the backdrop for everything from kids stories to tales of Bigfoot! Heman always had a story to tell and was usually composing more in his head daily. Storytelling was his true passion.
His death was unexpected and a great loss to those who knew him. His cheerfulness, relentless humor, nagging and leg-pulling was his trademark trait! An empty, quiet space left by his absence will not soon fade.
