Background
The world is less bright, the colors dimmed. Hema was a force. Incredibly smart with a huge heart, she was always available in times of need to support. Hema had an amazing smile that lit up the room and an easy laugh that was shared with everyone. When you met her, you loved her. You couldn't help it. She had an infectious positivity. You could bring your whole self exactly as you were into the relationship with Hema. She led with acceptance and caring, creating a welcoming safety for anyone blessed to know her. She was an incredible friend, sister, daughter, wife, and, most importantly, mother.
Surya was the light of her life. Even on the darkest days, Hema's face would light up when sharing stories of his newest word, his big personality, or her joy in being his mom.
As we sit with such an incredible loss, so many have asked, What can I do? How can I help?
Importantly, please ensure you or those you love get their yearly pelvic exams. Know the signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer and advocate for additional testing if needed.
Next, please share any stories that can be collected and shared with Surya and Hema's family to keep her spirit alive and help Surya know the amazing woman that was his mom. Continue to spread positivity and care with Hema in mind; carry her light forward so it may shine forever.
And finally, if you are so inclined, donate to help secure Surya's future education, which was so important to Hema.
The loss of Hema will never lessen, but with time and continuing to carry forward the love she so freely gave, the grief and sadness will be surrounded and held by the joy and laughter that she embodied. Contribute
