Background
The Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota held a special place in my grandmother’s heart, not only because of her deep love for music, but because of the personal connection she had to its beginnings. Her friend, Lee Dougherty Ross, co-founded the organization more than 30 years ago with a vision of bringing intimate, world-class performances to the community—something my grandmother admired and supported wholeheartedly.
What made it even more meaningful to her was the organization’s lasting commitment to young artists, awarding scholarships and creating opportunities for the next generation of musicians to grow and succeed. To her, it wasn’t just about the concerts—it was about investing in the future of the arts, encouraging passion, and helping young talent find their voice, just as her friend always believed in doing.
