Getting my owl tattoo next week to honor Helene. I can't tell you how much I miss her. She was one of a kind.

There aren’t enough words to share how much I am saddened by Helene’s passing. We met as co-workers and became great friends. From the very first introductions, we had an instant bond. She was like my little sister. I’m grateful to have had her in my life for as long as I did. It was really hard to see her health suffer so greatly however, it brings me peace knowing she is no longer suffering, but damn am I gonna miss her.
She was brilliant, funny, caring and just fun to be around. Helene was an old soul with the brightest light shining within. Her presence always resulted in uplifting me. You automatically felt her kindness and knew she was really listening to you and cared for you. I always left her happier than when I arrived.
Helene was such a passionate person with deep feelings. No matter what she was going through, she always pushed it aside to help others. She was a person of honor and I could always count on her. Helene was very sensitive to the emotions of those around her, especially animals. She loved animals to the point of putting their health and welfare above her own. This was Helene’s calling. Saving lost and injured animals, (and a handful of people), was woven into the fabric of her being and it was beautiful.
Over our 20-year friendship, I had the honor of watching Helene grow as a vet, to the point of starting her own holistic animal practice. I was so proud of her. I always called her a horse whisperer. She hated that. Horses would just flock to her. She had this amazingly calm presence that all animals loved and not many people possess.
The picture I posted was when my son needed help for a school project. Helene was more than happy to let us borrow her beloved pets. She never passed up an opportunity to share her knowledge of animals. This is Romeo and Romeo’s best friend a big, silly goat. It always cracked me up that the horse had his own goat, but the goat kept Rome calm. Whenever she moved, the goat always came too. This just shows how important the comfort of her animals was to her. She had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever known. Helene had a wonderfully, unique vision of the world that I just loved. I will miss you so very much my friend.
