Helen L. Laverentz 1/12/1923 - 5/27/2020


97 yrs young, of Woodward, OK
Passed away on a Wednesday May 27, 2020 at Woodward Hospital.

Helen was born at home on the family farm in Hiawatha, Kansas, January 12, 1923 , the daughter of Artie and Selma Harvey. She attended (usually on horseback) Euchre Creek Country School and Hiawatha High School.

She married Wilbur Laverentz in 1941. Wilbur preceded Helen’s death in1997.

Helen Ironed for people out of the home. She also worked at the K&W Motel cleaning rooms and Managing the motel when the owners needed her. Was a member of the Laverne First Christian church and helped with nearly every Pancake Breakfast for years. Was a Girl Scout Brownie leader. Volunteered at the Laverne Hospital as a Cheery Cherry & Candy Striper and took classes to become a certified Nurses Aide where she worked for many years until it closed. After retirement the Laverne Senior Citizens center was a daily visit for her and Wilbur. Helen was a regular volunteer and quilted at the center and volunteered in many programs to raise money for the Center as well. Helen was talented at singing and playing the harmonica as well as the piano and still enjoyed and entertained others even at the age of 97 where she was living at the Woodward skilled Nursing Facility in Woodward. Her parents and siblings were all musical and large family reunions were quite entertaining, especially when a piano would show up on the back of a truck.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents: husband Wilbur Laverentz; a brother Raymond, sisters Mildred and Lois Aldine.

She is survived by 3 children: Robert, Cherlyn & Debra . 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 9
Great-great-grandchildren.
