Helen's obituary

Helen May Hodsdon was welcomed into the gates of Heaven on September 1, 2021. She was born Helen May Stansbury on February 3, 1932 in Oroville, Washington to Leslie Carl Stansbury and Pearl Marie (Peterson) Stansbury. She graduated from Tonasket High School in 1950 and was the Tonasket HS Princess that year.

After high school, she immediately moved to Seattle where she worked for the FBI (we still don’t know what she did, as she would never tell us, darn NDA).

Helen married Edward D. Hodsdon on June 16, 1951. They were married 55 years before Edward’s passing in 2007. They traveled around the country and world during Edward’s 21 years active service in the US Navy and USAF, and lived in many beautiful places including WA where they had 3 sons, CA, CO, and ME where their only daughter was born, before finally settling in Airway Heights, WA where he retired from the USAF at Fairchild AFB.

While living in Airway Heights Helen was the town clerk for many years and was active in both the Airway Heights and Spokane community. She helped build Airway Heights Evangelical Free Church, where she taught Sunday School, played the piano, organ and sang in the small choir. Helen was an active member of the Spokane Garden Club, Civic Theater, and an owner and board member at Stoneridge Resort in ID, where she would love to stay every year with her closest friend, Doris Cook. She was a member of the Barbershop Quartet ‘Three Hits and a Miss’ and the only female at the time allowed in a Barbershop Quartet. When she wasn’t busy, Helen enjoyed working at the Spokane Airport in the information booth providing people from out-of-town, information on the city she loved. She loved playing the piano, crafting, time at her condo, spending time with family and friends, reunions of any kind (class, family, etc.), and her church family. She never met a stranger.

She traveled frequently to the Oregon coast with her husband and bother Dean Stansbury and wife Lillian (Babe) to go clam digging. She traveled all over the world but especially loved to go to Hawaii as often as she could and loved all that Hawaii had to offer.

Helen is survived by her children Paul Hodsdon of Airway Heights, WA, Mark Hodsdon of Bristow, VA and Jennifer (Mark) Regan of Katy, TX; grandchildren, Chase Hodsdon, Bryce Hodsdon, Drew (Anjali) Regan, Meagan Regan, Emily (Kevin) Moorman and 4 great-grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her mother and Father, husband Edward Hodsdon and son Michael Hodsdon and Brother Dean Stansbury and his wife Lillian (Babe) Stansbury.

She took advantage of every day and definitely lived “the Dash”

Helen’s kindness, loving heart, and warm soul will never be forgotten. Interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Ellisforde, WA. Helen’s memorial service will be postponed until further notice.
