Helen's obituary

Helen Marie Glover breathed her last breath on October 24, 2024 in her home in Battle Creek, Michigan surrounded by love after contending with cancer bravely and valiantly for 10 years.

Helen was born to Verner and Betty McCormick on April 2, 1949 in Jackson, Michigan as the eldest of three siblings. After graduating from high school at Battle Creek Central, she obtained her Associates Degree at Kellogg Community College. For several years, she and her sister, Patricia, traveled together throughout the United States, and they experienced a lifetime of adventures and heartaches. That season of Helen’s life culminated in Helen becoming a mother; a dream come true regardless of the harsh circumstances. Helen later relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan where she would raise her two children, Nichole and Steven, as a steadfast and devoted single mother with the support of Mac and Betty.

Helen worked for many years as an office manager at Beech & Rich Inc., where she retired in 2015. Her true vocation however was ministry; which she performed through prayer, art, and the nurturing of subsequent generations. Helen was ordained as a prayer pastor at Crossroads Church & Ministries in Marshall, Michigan, after serving as a volunteer in several capacities. Most notably, Helen served as a Sunday school teacher long enough to nurture a generation of youth as well as their children. She was trained as a spiritual director and offered precious wisdom and guidance to many. She was also a talented artist. Through her paintings and drawings, her unique perspective evoked wonder and introduced those who beheld her work to a Lord and Savior whom she knew well and loved deeply.

Helen was also an author, and wrote three children’s books. She was an advocate, and for years she served as a volunteer for Sexual Assault Services in Battle Creek comforting and embracing the most vulnerable and broken-hearted among us.

Helen was wonderfully and authentically herself. She was tenderhearted and sensitive, always disarmingly and charmingly vulnerable. Her tears revealed all manner of joys and sorrows. She was uber smart and profound, while also the kind of person that didn’t think to bring matches on a camping trip. With a smile that could light up even the darkest space, she poured out her life to the end loving to overflowing. If you knew her then you know what a treasure it was to be loved by her and to belong to her community of family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Nichole (Anthony) Jones and Steven (Adriane) Glover; her granddaughter, Chloe Jones; and her sister, Patricia (Melvin) Pemberton. Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 12:00pm at Crossroads Church & Ministries in Marshall, MI.
