Helen's obituary
Helen Abbott Gibson, 86, of Schaumburg, IL, peacefully passed away on April 6, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Helen was born on January 9, 1936 in the city of Woodstock, IL. After Helen graduated from Woodstock High School in 1950, she went to Rockford Business College and then to Washington D.C. to work in Senator Dirkson’s office. Afterwards Helen worked at Motorola in Schaumburg, IL. Her focus on people, planning and organization was essential to her success.
Helen was passionate about the church and her spiritual walk with Christ. Throughout her life, Helen was considered a pillar at the First United Methodist Church of Palatine and explored her faith through bible study. Helen could often be found at Frogs, leading a topic by Max Locado or meeting with her friends for coffee. Those who met Helen quickly knew her as an amazing and extraordinarily kind friend, wife, and mother. She listened and always expressed herself with authenticity that created deep lasting relationships. Helen found her mission when she engaged with the United Methodist Women. She would be at the church fixing meals, helping with Bethlehem Marketplace. Whenever called upon she was happy to lead and volunteer.
In 1941, she met Howard at Kindergarten. After Helen’s work in Washington DC, they were to be married at the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock, IL on June 14, 1958. Helen and Howard went on to have two sons and a daughter, Michael, Robert and Jennifer. While retired, Helen had time to pursue her love of travel and going to plays with Howard, loving her children and grandchildren and her commitment to the church. Helen was predeceased by Hazel Abbott, Ivan Abbott, Grace Gile, John Gibson, Ellie Gibson and Claire Gibson. She is survived by Howard Gibson, Jennifer Grajek, Michael Gibson, Robert Gibson, Michael McClintock Jr, Nick Gibson, Tyler Gibson, Marco Gibson, Emmalie Gibson, Zoey Zabinski, Jeff Grajek, Jody Gibson, Charles Abbott, Barbara Abbott. Helen’s family extended far beyond biological. The Nelson and Vehrs families and many others will always be considered family.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Palatine on April 16,2022 at 11am. Visitation will begin at 9am on April 16, 2022.
