Helen's obituary

Helen Copp was born Helen Darlene Snoderly to Hazel and Claude Snoderly on January 20, 1947, in a small coal mining town in West Virginia.  Helen's mother and father divorced and her mother remarried to Alexis Yearsovich. Helen and her family moved to Grand Rapids, MI, and then to Wyoming, MI. Helen went to and graduated from Godwin Heights High School. Helen was one of seven children being the only girl in the family she could hold her own with her brothers. There was a tight-knit element to the Snoderly/Yearsovich family.  Each one of them would go toe to toe with anyone who would go against their sibling for there was a strong fierce love for each other.  She grew up knowing the importance of family and taught that to her daughter, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. After high school Helen went to work for attorney Clem Block as a legal secretary. She had a whirlwind romance with Gilman Copp and was married on her birthday, January 20, 1968.  After some years of marriage, Helen became a mother and gave birth to a beautiful daughter Wendy Sue.

Helen had an extraordinary gift of making you feel like you were the most important and loved person in the world. She was a loving, kind, giving person, often putting other's needs before her own. She loved family, friends, neighbors, and church family not only with words but most of all with her actions. She was a lover and follower of Jesus Christ being an exemplary example of HIS love and kindness.  Helen served in choir, in the office, in daycare, deaf sign language at church. Helen was a talented singer, harmonica, accordion, and piano player.

Helen loved her husband very much and they often played music together at family gatherings. She was a faithful person if she said she would do something you could count on it.

Helen was a chairperson for elections in Wyoming, MI for many years. She enjoyed being able to be a part of the election process.

Helen is survived by her husband Gilman Copp, daughter, Wendy La Fontsee, son-in-law Doug La Fontsee, grandson Kyle Copp, grandson Donavan La Fontsee, great granddaughter, Kloe Copp, granddaughter in law, Danielle, brother Daniel Yearsovich, and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded by death by her mother Hazel Yearsovich, stepfather Alexis Yearsovich, aunt Wanda Yost, brother Neil Snoderly, brother Lloyd Snoderly, brother Ralph Snoderly, brother (Claude) Bill Snoderly, brother Donald Snoderly, great nephew Aaron Chandler, great great niece Zelanah Chandler

Helen was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend to many. Helen will be deeply missed by those who loved her very much. We are thankful that she will not only be in our past but also our future because of the promise that comes with salvation with Jesus Christ.

SELF WRITTEN DESCRIPTION:

I have accepted Christ as my Savior and am a member of Heritage Baptist Church. I enjoy Thunderstorms, the smell of rain, and rain on my face. I enjoy just sitting outside and listening to the birds chirp, watching the squirrels play, listening to them chatter, and feed them nuts. I enjoy the fragrance of flowers in the air.

I enjoy camping, making hobo pies and hot dogs in the campfire. I love all the colors of fall, the beauty of freshly fallen snow in the trees, and the sound of the waves as the tide comes in. I enjoy it when my grandkids come over to visit. I enjoy going to different band concerts to hear my oldest grandson play and to watch my youngest grandson play football. I also like to watch the Godwin Wolverines play - we can watch the games from our backyard. Christmas and the 4th of July are my 2 favorite times of the year. I enjoy going to Frankenmuth to see all the Christmas stuff and I enjoy the gatherings of friends and family with food, fun and fireworks. I enjoy the 4th of July parade, "Old Glory", Red, White and Blue and patriotic music. I'm proud to be an American!!
