It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the passing of Helen B. DeMeritt on July 17, 2024 at the age of 91. Helen was born on June 27, 1933 in Jackson, Michigan to Arnold and Palmyre Graffa.

In her younger years Helen enjoyed playing tennis and golf. She especially loved snow skiing and was an active member of the Somerset Ski Club. Downhill racing was one of her favorite pastimes.

After her retirement from the State of Michigan she spent her time enjoying life to the fullest. In her later years she traveled the world in the company of her sister, Arlene, visiting a variety of countries including China, Egypt, Turkey, Greece and the Galápagos Islands.

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Bill” DeMeritt, granddaughter Courtney B. Sculthorpe and her parents, Palymre Graffa and Arnold Graffa.

She is survived by her sister, Arlene Graffa, her son Paul (Sharon) DeMeritt, daughter Robin (Michael) Sculthorpe and son Michael (Shelia) DeMeritt. She was the loving Grandmother to Derrick (Jen) DeMeritt, Vail (Kellie) DeMeritt, Brandy Sculthorpe, Erin Sculthorpe, Bryan (Jackie) Sculthorpe, Alexandria DeMeritt and Eleanor DeMeritt. She was a Great-Grandmother to William and Mikaila DeMeritt, Vivian DeMeritt, Nathan Sculthorpe, Brecken DeMeritt and Nicholas Sculthorpe. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In memory of Helen the family suggests memorial tributes to the Alzheimer’s Association.
