Helen was born on July 4, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, to Alex and Sonia Yasinsky. She married the love of her life, Raymond Asanoff, on December 17, 1949. They were married for 50 years, until Raymond’s passing in 2000.
Helen grew up in Brooklyn and lived in Yonkers before settling in Fairfield, CT, for 43 years. She had many friends, having worked as a secretary for the Board of Education in NY and as a teacher’s aide in CT. She loved to bake and try new recipes, play progressive rummy, bowl with friends in the local league, and visit Fairfield’s beach. Later in life, she was a resident of Maris Grove in Glen Mills, PA, and was known as “The Cookie Lady”, frequently baking for her friends and neighbors.
Mother of three and beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Helen is survived by: her children–Ellen Linsen, Bruce Asanoff & his spouse Nancy, and Richard Asanoff; her seven grandchildren and their partners–Kimberly, Alex & Lauren, Eric & Becky, Christopher & Kaitlin, Kevin, Anthony, and Nicholas; seven great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. She was an active presence in their lives and warmly welcomed all into her kitchen.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Asanoff, her parents, Alex and Sonia Yasinsky, and her sisters, Anne Gembitsky and Aisha Abramowitz.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Helen’s memory be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (www.michaeljfox.org; Michael J.
