Heidi's obituary
Heidi Louise Cook
April 9, 1960 – April 13, 2026
Heidi Louise Cook, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed peacefully on April 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.
Heidi was born on April 9, 1960, to Manuel and Nina Faye (DeBusk) Gonzales in Montebello, California. When she was two years old, the Gonzales family moved into their brand-new home in South El Monte, where Heidi would grow up, form lifelong memories, and lay the foundation for the life she would build.
She attended public schools in the area and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1978, then went on to pursue higher education at Cal Poly Pomona. On May 16, 1981, she married the love of her life, Mark Cook, and together they began building their family, first in El Monte and then in Covina, California, which became their cherished hometown after they purchased their first family home there in May 1987.
Education was Heidi’s calling and her passion. She completed her undergraduate degree from Cal Poly Pomona in 1995 and later earned her Master’s in Education from Azusa Pacific University in 2003. She dedicated 28 years of her career to the Charter Oak School District, where she taught elementary school with grace, patience, and a genuine love for her students. To the countless young lives she touched, she was far more than a teacher — she was an inspiration.
Heidi is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Mark Cook; her four children, Kyle (Holly) Cook of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Natalie Cook of Covina, Candace (Chris) Vinje of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Major Jonathan (Morganne) Cook of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and her six cherished grandchildren, Beau and Blair Cook, Avery and Fiona Vinje, and Cassidy and Harrison Cook.
Heidi’s warmth, her dedication to family, and her tireless commitment to young learners leave a legacy that will be felt for generations. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
