HeeJin's obituary

HeeJin Kim, 김희진
February 4, 1997- July 5, 2020

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that HeeJin Kim passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the age of 23 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. She had a very difficult battle with colon cancer, and we are comforted by the fact that she is no longer suffering. HeeJin is survived by her mom, dad, sister, Bean (family dog), aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and all her wonderful loving friends over the years.

HeeJin was born in Seoul, South Korea at Heemyung Hospital at 4pm, February 4, 1997. She lived in South Korea for five years surrounded by her large family. She then immigrated to Canada when she was five years old with her mom, dad, and sister. She attended River Elm Elementary School, Bonnycastle Elemantary School, Arthur A. Leach Junior High, and Vincent Massey Collegiate. She made many life-long friends along the way and excelled academically all throughout her schooling.

HeeJin decided to pursue a university degree in civil engineering after high school at the University of Manitoba. She was one semester short of graduating but her hard work, colleagues, and contributions are not forgotten. She always strived to challenge herself and do well. Additionally, she volunteered her time at the university food bank, and her faculty association.

HeeJin found joy in participating in sports and community activities. She was an excellent badminton player and volleyball team member throughout her schooling, she received a Scholar Athlete award in Junior High. She also participated as a performer for the Korean Folklorama for several years, keeping close connection with her roots. She was also fluent in Korean despite coming to Canada at such a young age.

HeeJin had a strong drive to be independent, helpful, and productive. She had many jobs since her teenage years despite her already busy schedule. She worked at ToysRUs, Cineplex, Winners, City of Winnipeg, and the family store. She was always well liked by her co-workers and received high praise for all her hard work.

HeeJin loved to travel, watch TV, pet the dog and enjoy good food. She led her life with a quiet confidence, and always thought about others before herself. She will be forever treasured and loved by all her friends and family.
