Heather's obituary

Following a brief illness the Singer, Guitarist, Pianist, Flautist, Arranger and jazz musician passed away peacefully on April 17 in Richmond Beach with family members at her side. She was 75. Heather was born June 8, 1945 in Silverdale. Her mother was Edward Crossland Smith (Eddy), an English teacher, actress and founder of The Bremerton Theater. Her father was Harry Harvard Hammond, a pianist, arranger, builder, carpenter and businessman known for log homes in the area.
In 1952 the Bremerton Sun featured a front page photo of 7 yo Heather with her siblings, a vocal quartet who performed with dad Harry on piano. The recordings are quite good. She was an artist all her life and became famous in Seattle as a jazz tinged folk singer-guitarist in the golden age of early-sixties Seattle coffee house culture packing venues like The Pamir House, The Door, 92 Yesler, and The Llahngaelhyn., as well as performing at the Food Circus at the Seattle Center and several local TV productions such as "Hootenany" . A heroic figure who had worked the circuit from Haight-Ashbury to New York to Spain (for the guitars of Madrid and Valencia ) and Europe as a solitary woman troubadour. A riveting performer who conveyed the deepest human emotions without ever raising her voice above a girlish soprano while improvising guitar accompaniments that sounded like a second person. She was our favorite singer. Devastating.
She had several marriages, and six children, many musical, Loa Obbligata Allebach, Daemon Aaron Bernstein, Harry Edward Pierce, Dylan Jedediah Jester, Isaiah Sweeney, and Roc Solomon Valentine Pierce as well as a Grand daughter Aurora Phoenix Pierce , Four grandsons Coy White and Luthian Ravenwood Pierce, Caleb Edwin Robinson, Joshua Beauregarde Robinson, and two great grandchildren ( Oliver and Ira ) She was a life-giver and free spirit. She is survived by siblings Eugene Harry Hammond, Pamela Kathrine Hammond, and Margaret Hammond.
And a true North Westerner no matter where she alighted, including Seattle, Portland and Forks, always with her King James authorized 1609 Bible. She even drove semis for a few years. She never stopped creating her jazz arrangements of songs ranging from Anglo Saxon ballads and hymns to modern Americana and has a popular online site " 432hz jazz/folk/hymns" dedicated to her arrangements Soundcloud.com/HeatherHammond that was a great source of fun for her and attracted many new fans.
She has requested no services or frills. She will be remembered by many as an unstoppable force of nature.
