My mom (Mary Givens) considered Hazel a very special friend. They spent several winters together in Green Valley AZ going to garage sales and the casino or just sitting out on the courtyard visiting. She called Hazel by her nickname that she gave her (Hazy). When I met her for the first time, she smiled at me with a twinkle in her eye and said….” I am going to take you to the casino”. I realized what a big heart she had when she and Fred traveled from Michigan to Ohio for my mom’s funeral in 2012. I am sure my mom embraced her with open arms when her soul left us all here and she joined my mom in heaven. Hang on to your memories, they will provide healing.
Hazel was always happy to put on a pot of coffee and welcome me in. Even when I just dropped by unexpectedly. She and I would chat and laugh and share stories. She was a light to all who knew her. She was one of the strongest women I knew. She gave me great advice over the years, and hope when things felt hopeless. I hope she knew how much she meant to me. She will always hold a special place in my heart. Janie Lazo
