Hazel's obituary
God ordained Hazel Mildred Walker’s entry into the world on March 28, 1930, in Rock Spring, Hanover, Jamaica West Indies. It was the first year of the Great Depression. However on Blair’s Hill in Hanover, it was a time of joy and peace for the Blair family as their darling and beloved Hazel joined her siblings, Winston Herbert, George Milton, Donald Altamont, and Hilda Cynthia. She made the family complete for her parents George and Hilda, who were also raising George’s children from a previous union: Claude, Lola, Lilleth, Halford and Gerald.
Hazel grew up and quickly demonstrated her intelligence. She loved to read and was a gifted writer in school. She attended Rusea’s High School in Lucea, Jamaica West Indies and afterward made her career in government employment. She met the love of her life, Kenneth Walker, while both were in government service. They married shortly thereafter and were blessed on March 21, 1972 with the birth of their beloved son Christopher Walker. He has been a source of joy in their lives and a tower of strength throughout.
They shared a beautiful life in Jamaica at their Kingston home (#1 Beresford Crescent), bringing into their happy home Ken's beloved mother and sister to live their remaining years. The 1990's brought much change as Chris began medical school and Hazel and Kenneth migrated to Orlando, Florida to be with their son, now a medical doctor. In 2005, Hazel’s grandson Nicholas Blair Walker was born . He brought great joy and pride to his grandparents.
Throughout her married life she was a cherished example of motherhood - providing loving care, invaluable encouragement, and enduring friendship to her spouse, son, many family members, and friends. On Saturday, November 11, 2023, our good Lord welcomed Hazel Mildred home. After a full life, our beloved Hazel, wife of Ken, mother to Chris, grandmother to Nicholas, sister to Hilda Cynthia, beloved aunt and friend to many (too numerous to list here), returned to her maker welcomed by the family and loved ones who preceded her. She will be missed and never forgotten. As the bible reminds us in John 16:22 – “So with you: now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” We thank God for her, everyday, in each and every way.
