Hayat's obituary
Hayat Dajani Younoszai, age 93, passed away on Sunday, May 18th 2025 in Laguna Woods, CA. She was born on May 2nd in Nazareth, Palestine; the eldest daughter to parents Arafat and Fatima Dajani.
Hayat was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Ismat Dajani, Adli Dajani, and Omar Dajani, and her sister Amal Dajani.
Hayat is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Kabir Younoszai; brother Ali (Uli) Dajani; children Mona (Scott) Glover and Adel (Megan) Younoszai; and grandchildren Freyja (Megan), Lauren, Maya, Mitch, Nolan, and Cole.
Hayat was born and spent her childhood in Palestine growing up in Jerusalem, Jericho, Ramallah, and other parts of the Middle East surrounded by cousins and playing in fruit orchards. While volunteering in a refugee camp, she developed a passion for nursing and went to nursing school in London at the age of 18.
For Hayat, creating a welcoming home was a core value. Always cooking delicious food to feed anyone who may show up, Hayat built friendships and community everywhere she went. The many places that she would call home included London, England; Beirut, Lebanon; Winnipeg, Canada; Iowa City, Iowa; Louisville, Kentucky; Vail, Colorado; and Laguna Woods, California.
Hayat enjoyed traveling with and to her loved ones. Trips with her children and siblings in Europe, cruises with her husband and in-laws, and visits from her grandchildren were particularly happy memories.
Although the direct translation of Hayat means life, those that were lucky enough to know her described Hayat as being made of love. Through the challenges life threw her way, Hayat met them with compassion, humor, and determination. In the final weeks of her life, Hayat was entertaining those around her with jokes and songs, some more appropriate than others.
