Hawley's obituary

Hawley Francis “Mike” Garvin, retired civil engineer with Bethlehem Steel Corp for 40 years in California and in Baltimore, died peacefully due to complications of diabetes and heart disease on January 2, 2020, at the rehabilitation unit of Stella Maris in Cockeysville, Maryland. He was 82.

Son of Capt. Joseph Hawley Garvin and Stella Cora Garvin (nee Herzik), he was born in San Diego, California in 1937. He was a 1960 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he enrolled in the US Navy ROTC program, and later served as Lieutenant in the US Navy from 1960 to 1962. He married Ann Genevieve Pope of Windsor, Ontario in 1965. In 1976 he and his family moved to Cockeysville in a transfer with Bethlehem Steel.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Genevieve of Cockeysville; sister Joan Garvin of Berkeley, California; son Gregory H. Garvin and his wife Sharon A. Garvin of Baltimore; son Barrett C. Garvin and his wife Melissa Garvin of Lutherville; and his daughter Genevieve R. Garvin of Carlsbad, California. He had 13 grandchildren who lovingly called him "Pop Pop".

A memorial mass is planned for 11am on Saturday, January 18th at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church - 1102 Hart Rd, Towson, MD 21286.
