Hattie's obituary
Hattie Monegain was born into life on February 25,1935 in Chatfield, Arkansas the youngest child of Elnora and Lee Moore. Her sister Beatrice died in infancy.
As a child, Hattie was interested in giving her life to the Lord from an early age; both she and her oldest nephew, Adell, would go to church with their grandmother every Sunday. Hattie was particularly interested in the Communion Sacrament and wondered why all of the adults could participate and the children could not- after all kids were hungry too! One day, upon learning what communion consisted of, she decided to set up her own communion service. In her kitten heels, and her most adult looking dress, she sashayed across the train tracks near her home and used money she made from collecting bottles to buy some grape juice and crackers to have her very own communion service. Even as a child she showed resilience, determination and a strong desire to serve God.
In her adult years, Hattie and her family were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Chicago, Illinois under Pastor James Foley. Later after moving to Homestead, Hattie attended Lifepointe Church under Pastor Travis Johnson. It was here that Hattie was impressed by the Lord to start an Addiction Recovery Group. Through the Addiction Recovery Group, new friendships were forged and members and their families were led to the Lord !
In adulthood, she married Lawrence (Larry) Monegain with whom she had three beautiful children, Debra, Lanye and Derrell. In between serving as a wife and mother, she also was determined to satiate her desire for learning through education. She was one of the first people in her family to attend college, going on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Chicago State University and later in life obtaining a Masters in Education from Nova Southeastern University.
Hattie was as dedicated to sharing the knowledge she obtained with others as she was to the pursuit of learning. She became an elementary school and high school teacher where she spent over 40 years teaching students in Illinois and Florida. She also served as a Girl Scout troop leader and secretary for the South Shore Garden Betterment Association.
When she was not teaching or obtaining knowledge she was engaged in her other interests such as gardening, writing and real estate. In her 50s she became a maverick in real estate with the sale of her apartment complex in Ft. Lauderdale. Combining her love of teaching and for children she wrote a 2010 children’s book called “Fefe” inspired by her pet cat Kitty. .
During her retirement, Hattie continued to devote her life to the Lord and mentor others through the women’s group called Sarah’s Daughters. She was also an active and beloved member of the New Hope Assembly of God for more than 10 years. A powerful Prayer Warrior with a strong prophetic anointing, Hattie’s heartfelt desire was to see her family and all she met come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour! She felt that the Word of God was an essential tool in becoming a follower of Christ, and to that end, she started a weekly Bible study consisting of family and friends. Hattie loved to sing and dance before the Lord!! We can only imagine what a glorious time she is having now!!
On Monday afternoon of July 17, 2023, she took flight to the Heavenly gates from her home surrounded by family.
