Harvey's obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Harvey Gordon Cranfill, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the community. Harvey was born on January 30, 1933, and passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023.

Raised in Glendale, CA, he moved to New York City after the Army, where his interest in photography soon taught him that he wouldn't make a living doing what he loved which led to the start of his aerospace career while living in Connecticut and New Jersey. Over the years he worked as a contract manager, most recently with Lockheed Martin where he was a contract manager in the Astronautics Division in Denver, Colorado. He enjoyed the programs that he worked on including the Manned Maneuvering Unit, Tethered Satellite, and many others. He enjoyed travel and his career required that he travel and introduced him to visiting many international countries. While working at Lockheed he was introduced to hot-air ballooning by a fellow co-worker. Harvey loved nature and animals, especially cats. After retiring he turned to reading and became an avid reader. His goal was to read as many classics as he could and then turned to mysteries. He enjoyed the Colorado mountains, often camping, and motorcycling.  Harvey built an Amazing Log home in Bailey, Co. He moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota to help care for his in-laws in their later years. Harvey moved to The Village's , Florida where he retired and met Rose Mary.  At the time of his death, he was living in Columbia, SC.

Harvey was a man of many accomplishments, but his greatest joy was found in the company of his beloved family. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Rose Mary Stacho, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Harvey was a proud Step-Father to his daughters- Jenifer Fry and Marta Merez, who will miss him dearly. Also Gayle & Rich Chifolo and George & Glen Stacho- Rose Mary's children.

His memory will live on through his grandchildren, John Edward Fry and Shayla Steffens, both of whom filled his life with immense love and happiness.  Harvey was an Amazing Father and Grandfather !

Harvey was predeceased by his father, also named Harvey C. Cranfill &  his Mother Allie Cranfill, with whom he shared a strong bond and cherished memories.

2023 marked a significant year in Harvey's life, a time in which he reflected on his journey and the legacy he would leave behind. Those who knew Harvey will remember his generosity, smile, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

As we mourn the loss of Harvey Cranfill, we take solace in the memories we shared with him and the enduring impact he left on our lives. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on through the love of his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his days on earth.  Miss you Harvey !!  XoXoX
