Harold Simmons, Jr., of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 58.
Harold was a loving son, devoted husband, and proud father whose life reflected hard work, creativity, and deep love for family. A respected television professional known for his calm presence, sharp technical mind, and genuine warmth, he touched countless lives both personally and professionally.
Born on February 27, 1967, Harold was the beloved son of Harold Simmons and Cheryl Gadson. He graduated from Mount de Sales Academy in Macon, Georgia, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed his passion for creativity and communication. He went on to attend Morehouse College and Fort Valley State University, continuing to build the foundation for his career and the values that would guide his life.
Harold built a successful career in television, where he was admired for his integrity, tireless work ethic, and deep technical expertise. He began his media journey at WMAZ in Macon, starting as a Tape Operator and working his way up to directing the morning news. His determination and natural eye for timing and precision earned him the respect of colleagues early on.
He later worked as an Editor for Home Depot, CNN, and The Weather Channel, mastering the craft of visual storytelling. For the past 20 years, Harold served as a Technical Director, working with Fox Sports, NBC Sports, and many other stations across the country. His calm leadership, problem-solving skills, and unmatched attention to detail made him a trusted and valued presence in every control room he entered.
Throughout his distinguished career, Harold was part of several award-winning broadcast teams whose work earned multiple regional Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award, recognizing excellence in broadcast journalism and storytelling. He took great pride in contributing to productions that informed, inspired, and connected audiences nationwide.
Earlier in life, Harold worked at Camelot Music—an experience that sparked his lifelong love of music.
In 2002, Harold married Stacey Gibbons, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. As a devoted husband, he was Stacey’s best friend, confidant, and partner in every sense. They shared so much joy—traveling together, going to concerts, raising their boys, and spending time surrounded by family and friends.
Harold was the proud and loving father of Harold Simmons III and Kellen Michael Simmons. Nothing brought him more happiness than being their dad. He taught them the importance of kindness, humility, and perseverance, and his steady love and encouragement were the heart of their home. To his family, he was affectionately known as “Daddy-O”—a teacher, mentor, and constant source of wisdom and strength.
A proud Philadelphia sports fan, Harold cheered for the Eagles, Phillies, and 76ers with unmatched loyalty and enthusiasm. Whether watching a game or sharing a laugh, he brought joy, humor, and passion to every moment.
In August 2014, Harold became ill, yet he continued to work tirelessly through his illness to support his family. His perseverance, faith, and unwavering dedication were a true reflection of his strength and love for those closest to him. Even through hardship, he faced every day with quiet courage and grace.
Harold is survived by his loving wife, Stacey; his sons, Harold Simmons III and Kellen Michael Simmons; his mother, Cheryl Gadson; his father, Harold Simmons; and a host of family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Those who knew Harold will remember his generous spirit, quick wit, and the warm laugh that could light up any room. He had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
