Harold's obituary
Harold Thomas Heckman Jr. of Reading, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Joe’s Hospital in Reading, just two months after celebrating his 70th birthday. He was born on August 26, 1955, at Community General Hospital in Reading, PA, a son of the late Harold and Blanche Heckman.
Harold lived a life marked by hard work and, most importantly, a profound commitment to change and family in his later years. He dedicated many years to his profession as an over-the-road truck driver, a career he excelled at and one that eventually led him to the pride of owning his own truck before retiring due to health.
Known for his sharp wit and often mischievous sense of humor, Harold loved to spend time with his family. He was a dedicated fan of all sports—college and professional—with a passion for football and basketball. Before health issues intervened, he also enjoyed working on cars.
In his adult life, Harold made the courageous decision to turn his life around. He committed himself to making amends and worked diligently to be a loving and present father and grandfather. This later chapter of his life, defined by dedication, reconciliation, and unconditional love, is the legacy his family will cherish most.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Blanche Heckman; his sister, Judy; and his children, Jessi Hess and Troy Heckman.
He is survived by his sister, Blanche (Billy). He is also survived by his children, Todd (Terissa) Heckman, Victoria Heckman, and Jeffrey (Ashley) Heckman; Patience (Joe) Lord-Schmidt; 14 loving grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
