Harold's obituary
Deacon Harold Deon Gurley, son of the late Walter and Mildred “Milburn” King Gurley was born December 29, 1944. He entered into eternal life Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the VA Medical Center Hospital, Fayetteville, NC.
Inducted into the Army at the age of 17, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam in the United States Army Special Forces, colloquially know as the “Green Berets” due to their distinctive service headgear. While assigned as a Combat Engineer and Demolition Expert, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with one device 1960, the Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14) and two Overseas Bars while serving his country, the United States of America.
He was a member of Jesus Only Church, Marion, S.C., where he gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ through the repentance and remission of his sins. He was Baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit on May 7, 2006. He received the Holy Spirit which led him in his final walk with the Lord as an Ordained Deacon, at Jesus Only Church, Marion, S.C.
He leaves to cherish his memories Three brothers; Mr. Walter (Patsy) Gurley Jr., Marion, S.C., Mr. George Edward (Martha) Gurley, Durham, N.C., and Mr. Lawrence Jerome (Sandra) King, Tucson, AZ; Mrs. Mildred Bridges, Marion S.C., Mrs Catherine Godfrey, Marion,S.C., Mrs. Doris Verneta (Guy) Davis, Goldsboro, N.C.; six children; Mr. Larry Ellis, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Margaret L. Gurley, Marion, S.C., Mr. Harold D. Gurley, Jr., New York, Mr. Anthony Gurley, New York, Mr. Kevin Deon ( Jennifer) Gurley, Des Moines, Iowa, Mr. Kenneth (Tammy) Gurley, Baltimore, Maryland; twenty-four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives, a special friend, Norma Jean Hemingway and friends.
