The Gernandt family, Forgive me, but you may already know I won't be able to attend your Dad's services, this Saturday, due to my scheduled surgery this Friday. I wanted to share with you my guilt for not being able to be there. I have been absolutely hurting inside. Your Father meant the world to me. He was so crucial in supporting my recovery. I owe everything to Chew, for my 19 years of sobriety. He was a gracious friend to me, when no one else would. As you know I spoke with him on a weekly basis. Now, I'll no longer have that caring ear that intently listened and sincerely cared about me. Please inform everyone why I couldn't be there. Your Dad will always be in my heart and prayers. Chew was a wonderful role model. But, most of all, he was a true and devoted friend. Please extend my love and Blessings to all in attendance. Humbly yours, Rafael Charres.

Dear MaryAnn, Lori, Carrie, Craig and family, My deepest condolences to you on the passing of our beloved Chew. He was very special to Bob and I. Now Chew and Bob will be together drumming in drum corps heaven! God bless you all.

It is with very sad hearts that we learned of Chew’s passing. Our fondest memories are of meeting Chew and Maryanne and Lori, Carrie and Craig at Ocean Beach every summer. Chew inspired our sons, Andy and Craig, to become drummers ( and they still play ). Wendy looked forward to be being with Lori and Carrie every summer. We may have been out of sight in recent years but Chew and his family were never out of our minds. I still remember Chew playing “ drums “ with a spoon, a cup and saucer to an 8 Track of Chicago. He made everyone around him happier. He will be sorely missed. The Roberts, Bischoff and Pruss families.
