Harlan's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harlan "Pop" Moore, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, on December 22, 2023. Born in 1945, Harlan led a life marked by love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
Harlan is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Pam Moore. He leaves behind a son, David Moore and his wife, Christina; his cherished grandchildren, Christopher Moore, Emma Moore, Derek Bays, Johanna Bays, Matthew Moore, Emilia Bays, and Vivian Bays. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Moore-Teller. Harlan was predeceased by his son, Richard H. Moore, and his parents, Harlen E. Moore and Della Moore.
After graduating from Benicia High School in 1963, Harlan married the love of his life, Pam, in 1966. The couple was blessed with their first child in 1969 and their second in 1971. Shortly after the family was started, Harlan and Pam relocated to the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. From this family, his greatest pride and joy's were born - his grandchildren.
Harlan's sense of community was profound. He was a volunteer and past Exhaulted Ruler at the Elks Club in Auburn, Ca. He was a director of the Northern California Ostomy Association , a board member at Auburn Valley Country Club, and an Ex-President and Coach at SnowLine Little League. His contributions to these organizations underscore his commitment to service and the betterment of his community.
A man of deep integrity, Harlan's character was marked by thoughtfulness, loyalty, selflessness, and an unwavering love for his family. He was renowned for his patience, honesty and deeply-held belief that family means everything. His greatest accomplishment was the deep, unwavering love he held for his family and friends, a love that he communicated through his words and actions every day.
Harlan's legacy, a testament to giving and a love for the outdoors, will live on in the hearts of those he loved and served. His passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his life is a testament to the power of love, service, and community.
A funeral service in honor of Harlan will be held on January 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Dominic's Church. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived, and the countless ways he touched our lives. Harlan was a treasure to those who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
