It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my 13-year old pug dog son Harald Payton, also known to some as "Lil' Herro," "Mr. H," "Harry," "HARALLLD," "Harold (with the o)," and "Pumpkin."

I adopted Harald on June 16, 2014 and he passed away to doggie heaven in the afternoon on October 8, 2025. We enjoyed life together for 11 years. 

For those who knew Harald, you would agree that he was more human than dog. Despite his penchant for the "bougie" life, his soul was characterized by an innate sweetness and a deep love for others. He was a defender of those he loved, as he followed me anywhere and everywhere, regardless if he had the  physical strength to do so. But, he was also a protector, who would go to any length to ensure my safety and happiness, which includes always running to the door to bark and growl at the delivery drivers, postal workers, unknown strangers, big dogs, squirrels, and frankly, anyone and anything he didn't like. 

His life's journey taught me and my family many lessons, and amongst them, the most impactful was his personal mantra: "Never give up." Harald was a testament to this ethos, facing and battling multiple medical diagnoses with relentless grit and unwavering resilience.  Despite being diagnosed with a liver tumor in 2021 (which was successfully surgically removed) and a brain tumor in around 2022, his determination to live his best life remained undiminished through his most challenging times, pushing him to persevere even in the face of adversity.

Looking back at Harald's life, it’s hard not to be awed by his doggy accomplishments. He was an avid explorer who travelled extensively throughout the country and "marking" many parks along the way, adapting to every change and circumstance with remarkable ease, which is a testament to his courage and tenacity.

Though Harald may no longer be with me in person, his spirit will forever resonate in my heart. I will cherish the hundreds and thousands of memories we had together. While my family and I grieve his passing, we also celebrate that Harald had a full and fun 13 years of life – filled with vigor, courage, attitude, and unabashed love. Farewell, Harald, you will forever be missed and will live forever and always in my heart.
