Thank you, sweet Hannah, for everything you gave our family. You had, hands down, the world’s best laugh. You were a hero to Maia, going to the Star Wars premiere and instilling an off the charts Taylor Swift obsession. We will always love you.

I am just learning about Hanna’s passing and just heartbroken for everyone. I remember what a good friend she was to juliet and the two of them going to Perry Mansfield in steamboat.  what a bright young life cut short my heart goes out to everyone who loved Hanna. 💔

From the day I met her at age 14, Hannah was unapologetically herself. There was no one else in our high school who was that courageous; I was so pulled to her infectious energy. Several times, she got up in front of our choir of over 100 peers and performed her infamous whale joke. I have never laughed harder, it will forever be one of the best jokes I have ever heard (but specifically her version of it). She was goofy, outgoing, vulnerable, fearless, brilliant, curious, and most of all, loving. Hannah had one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know.

When we were 18, Hannah visited the Humane Society and learned that there was an elderly dog there who likely had just a few months left to live — Mr. Magoo. Hannah couldn’t stand the thought of senior Mr. Magoo living his last months without a family, so she adopted him on the spot. That summer, Hannah took Mr. Magoo everywhere she went. He was blind, deaf, and overall not doing too well, but she wanted to ensure that she gave him the best end of life possible. She loved the heck out of that little white dog. He even fell into a friend’s pool once, and she immediately jumped in to rescue him. At the time, that dog was everything to her.

Hannah loved her people hard. She took people in when they needed and was so good about checking in. I crashed with her and Hannah when the Marshall Fire hit our hometown and she spent the entire evening calling and messaging friends, checking if they were ok along with their houses. Despite experiencing her own distress that night, she calmed and loved on me.

There was and will never be anyone else quite like Hannah Spears. I feel so grateful and so privileged for all of the beautiful memories we have together, always full of so much laughter and maybe a few tears. Love you, Hannah — forever & always.

Fairview High School POPS show -- I specifically remember that we spontaneously started embracing and shedding some tears in this moment captured here as we realized that this was our last show together.
I have so many memories of Hannah goofing off in the SLS office together, volunteering and going on SLS trips. Her hilarious spirit and kindness always made my day. She will be greatly missed and condolences to all those close to her. Sending love.

I’ve been struggling to come up with words that capture the essence of Hannah’s and my friendship; truthfully, I don’t know if I will ever be able to. Hannah and I met in graduate school and she was my biggest cheerleader in our program. She fully believed in pursuing her passions and her dedication to the school, the program, and data was admirable.

Hannah always offered the best advice, whether it was about life, love, work, or school, and she always wove in comical and witty quips that still have me chuckling today. I met her because of biostatistics, but I quickly realized our friendship stretched far beyond school. Every single memory I have with her is one with ear-to-ear smiles on our faces, and that is something I will cherish forever.

Hannah was and forever will be my Taylor Swift friend (when we weren’t making extremely inappropriate and dirty jokes, I still haven’t met someone who thinks as filthy thoughts as we do). She converted me in 2012 and since then, we’ve been insufferable. She spent a good portion of high school catching me up on the already vast Swift lore, discovering that Speak Now is an underrated gem, and that Red would become my favorite, to this day. She even bought me a giant blanket with the Red album artwork on it for my birthday. Then in August of 2014, on a hot Friday, we listened to shake it off together while driving around in my car, and decided we would spend whatever it took to see the 1989 tour when it came to denver. we bought nosebleed tickets on the side of the stage and had the time of our lives, our surprise song was Fifteen, and “we both cried”, to this date one of the best concerts i’ve ever been to. Hannah, I love you and miss you, I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you.
