Hannah's obituary

Hannah Fischer, age 64 of Gainesville, FL passed away at North Florida Hospital on Monday, March 21, 2022 with her loving family by her side.

Hannah was born in Walnut Ridge, AR on August 1, 1957 to Howard and Hiroko Dixon. Her father was in the military during her primary years, and she lived in many different places in the U.S. She graduated from Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte, FL and then attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She earned an A.A. from Manatee Community College in Bradenton, FL. Hannah served as an Administrative Assistant for 16 years at Santa Fe College. She was also earning her B.S in Early Childhood Education at the college.

Hannah is survived by her children, Allison Catherine Fischer and David Colin Fischer, her husband, George Randall Fischer of Gainesville, and her siblings, Hamilton Dixon, and Holly Dixon.She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Dixon (1975) of Gasparilla, Florida, mother, Hiroko Dixon (née Okuyama) (2001) of Sendai, Japan, beloved nephew, Andrew J. Fischer (2007) of Gainesville, FL, father-in-law, George K. Fischer (2009) of Uniondale, NY and mother-in-law, Catherine "Kay" Hopkins Fischer (2020) of Brooklyn, NY.

Hannah was a voracious reader and was always found reading multiple titles at a time. She enjoyed cross-stitching and quilting. She was an Assistant Girl Scout Leader for Troop 579 in the Gateway Girl Scout Council throughout her daughter’s run from Brownies through Seniors. Hannah volunteered with the Displaced Homemaker Program at Santa Fe, which helped her get her start at the college. She devoted her life to her children, choosing to be a stay-at-home Mom. Her graciousness, strength, kindness, politeness, compassion, unique laugh, sweet voice, and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm at The McKenzie House, 617 E University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601. Afterward, please join us for a gathering of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alachua County Library District in her honor.
