Hannah's obituary
Hannah’s parents Kelvin Alexander and Utahna (Hoffman) Alexander welcomed her into the world in Winnemucca, Nevada on March 2, 2005. She was a junior at Grassfield High School.
Hannah was by far the most amazing young lady you will ever meet. She was funny, silly, playful, always had to have the last word, stubborn, and compassionate to everyone. She truly wanted to make sure others were happy even when she wasn’t. She loved playing the Tenor Saxophone and enjoyed being a member of the band but mostly she lived to play jazz music. She truly enjoyed arts and crafts but had a soft spot for jewelry pieces and mini clay figures. She was very academically gifted, and you could always find her hiding and reading a Stephan King book. She so loved her large tee shirts and comfy clothes. She’d never pass up the chance to enjoy all-you-can-eat sushi or a yummy, rare steak. Hannah loved to plan weekly dinners that always included some type of homemade treat on the weekends. She said family dinners were the highlight of her week. She was also very particular about schedules and routines, it helped her stay focused on things in her world. Hannah loved to pick all her weekly clothes before the week started and she also enjoyed journaling things that affected her life. Hannah had a love hate relationship with exercising but beamed from ear to ear after she’d finish her 6:00 am workouts. She truly was an amazing person who loved the people in her life with all she had.
As we celebrate Hannah’s life, we would be remised not to mention her struggles. She struggled with mental health issues including PTSD, anxiety, suicidal ideation and severe depression. Over the last year and half, she worked extremely hard in two intense inpatient and outpatient treatment programs focusing on her own health issues. Unfortunately, Hannah ultimately took her own life. We know suicide is a hard topic to discuss and very often is the elephant in the room, but as a family we’d like to shine some light on this very difficult topic. By bringing more awareness, hopefully we can begin to normalize conversations of mental health issues and make these conversations easier.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t suffer in silence. Suicide is the 10th leader of deaths in the US. Please reach out to the suicide prevention hotline at 1-800-273-TALK.
Hannah is preceded in death by her grandparents Arthur (Speck) & Wanda Alexander, Gordan Hoffman, step-grandparent Frank Meyers, and her mom Utahna (Hoffman) Alexander. She is survived by her father Kelvin Alexander, sisters Kristen (Anthony) Savee, Jessica (Jerrod) Sonderman, Brittany (Andy) Giesbrecht, Haley (Leo) Hernández, eleven nieces & nephews, Grandma Diane Meyers, and many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rather than sending flowers, please consider making donations to “The Jason Foundation” they help with suicide prevention/support for youth and families. A life celebration service will be held for both Utahna and Hannah at the LDS church on December 4th at 11:00am. 752N 520E Tooele, Utah 84074.
