Halina's obituary
Halina Teresa Marincsin “Nina”
February 23, 1949 – December 30, 2024
With sadness and overflowing love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Halina Teresa Marincsin (Majda), who left this world on December 30, 2024, at the age of 75. Surrounded by the love of her children, Halina passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and beauty.
She is survived by her children, Edward and Ashley Marincsin, and her cherished grandchildren, Maximus, Natelie, and Caio, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Jane Brown, her brother, Thaddeus Majda, and many dear friends who became family along the way.
Halina was born in Myślenice, Poland, on February 23, 1949, to her parents, Czeslawa and Stanislaw Majda. As a young girl, she embarked on a life-changing journey when her family set sail from Gdynia on the Polish ship “Batory,” arriving in Quebec, Canada, before making their way to Chicago, Illinois, in December 1964. Filled with gratitude for the opportunities of her new homeland, Halina immersed herself in learning English, spending hours at the library, where books became her window to the world. She graduated high school in 1966 and pursued business school, leading to a career as an Executive Secretary at Kemper Insurance in downtown Chicago. She was captivated by the city’s grandeur, enchanted by its skyscrapers, the river, daily train ride and the vibrant energy of its streets.
In 1970, a dear friend encouraged Halina to apply for a position with Pan American Airlines, marking the beginning of an extraordinary chapter in her life. She passed her interviews in Chicago and completed flight training in Miami, launching an adventure based out of New York City that took her across South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Pacific. Halina embraced the golden age of air travel with elegance, grace, and a radiant smile that could light up any room. She married Joseph Marincsin in 1972 and welcomed her firstborn, Edward in 1982. A year later, she finished flying and in 1984 she gave birth to her daughter, Ashley. Halina created a true sanctuary in her dream “Polish Haven” in South New Jersey, where she nurtured a breathtaking garden that became the heart of her home. She found immense joy in watching her children and plants flourish side by side and sharing her love for the ocean and beach with her family and friends. She had an artist’s touch, pressing delicate flowers between book pages, cooking delicious soups, crafting beautiful wreaths, and growing wild, fairytale-like pumpkins. Her home was even featured on Garden Tours, a testament to the peace and beauty she cultivated not only in her garden but also in her heart.
A woman of deep faith, Halina was active in her community, dedicating her time to Saint Joseph’s Church in Somers Point, the Children’s Seashore Hospital, and the Miss America Pageant. She was a guardian angel to many, forming lasting connections with elderly individuals whom the children called “adopted grandparents.” Her generosity and compassion knew no bounds. After navigating divorce in 1995, bravely overcoming breast cancer, and 13 years dedicated as a homemaker, Halina rediscovered her passion for helping people. She worked with the Atlantic City Visitors Authority and as a Concierge at Trump Taj Mahal, where she touched the lives of countless travelers. She spoke Polish, Russian, French, and Spanish, and believed that a smile was the universal language of kindness. “Smile first, smile big, smile often,” she would say, a mantra she carried throughout her life.
In her later years, Halina moved to Lake Barrington, Illinois, to be closer to her family and dedicate herself to caring for her beloved mother. She cherished watching her grandchildren grow, celebrating their achievements with boundless pride. Even in the face of illness, she embraced life with grace and unwavering faith, believing in the presence of angels who guided her home. Shortly before her passing, she found comfort in the vision of her late mother reassuring her that she was deeply loved and that it was time to return home.
Halina leaves behind a legacy of beauty, kindness, and faith that will continue to inspire those who knew her. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life richly lived, filled with adventure, love, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of the world.
