Hal's obituary
We announce with great sadness the passing of Hal Lael, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. Born in 1961, Hal came into the world armed with a spirit of joy and love that he shared generously with those around him. His journey on earth came to a close on February 28, 2024, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Hal is survived by his sons, Anthony Lewis and Brian Lael, his daughters, Melenia Johnson, Shanna Lael and Amber Walker, and his step-daughters, Riva Haney and Ashley Lewis. Each of his children and step-children will remember him for his unwavering love, support, and the happy moments they shared.
He is predeceased by his parents, Buck and Margie Lael. The bond he shared with his parents was profound, and it is comforting to know that he has reunited with them in tranquil peace.
Hal was an alumnus of Hickory High School, graduating in the year 1979. Many of his lifelong friendships and fondest memories were made within those halls.
A man of simple tastes, Hal reveled in the comfort of his mother's famous Pimento Cheese. Music played a significant role in his life, with bands like Guns 'n' Roses, Jimi Hendrix, and The Doors providing the soundtrack to his years. You'd often times hear them playing as he approached in his prized 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra, in which he loved to take friends and family for a ride around town. Hal was also an avid motorcyclist, enjoying many a warm afternoon cruising the parkway, or racing one of his Harley-Davidson's down the Tail of the Dragon.
Hal found joy in the great outdoors. He was an ardent fisherman and hunter, relishing the serenity and thrill these hobbies offered. Spending quality time with his family was of utmost importance to Hal, each moment a cherished memory. He also found excitement and challenge in competitive shooting and archery.
His real passion, however, lay in the care and nurturing of his family. Their well-being was his main concern, and he devoted his life to ensuring their happiness. His cheerful and loving nature was a beacon of warmth, illuminating the lives of all who knew him.
We mourn the loss of Hal, a beacon of love and joy. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit lives on in his family and the numerous lives he touched. We take solace knowing he is at peace with his treasured parents.
