My condolences to Gwene's family. I've known Gwene since I was five years old and when I was growing up (especially while in elementary school and junior high), she was like a second mother to me. I have such fond memories of visiting the planetarium and museums with her and Ayana, going on hikes or bike rides through the forest preserve, attending cultural events, sampling pound cake that she baked, going to Jack and Jill daycare, being introduced to movies like Ragtime, Alien, and Aliens, going to the library at Governor State to help with research, and so much more.
Gwene was always kind to me, sharing her thirst for knowledge and perpetual learning. She was also a passionate and thought provoking conversationalist.
She will be greatly missed but will be forever in my thoughts ❤️.

Gwene was my only "best friend" throughout my life.. We spent so much time together in Robbins and at Illinois State University. I always got her strange sense of humor. Even though life later kept us distant from each other, we always stayed in touch. She will always be in my heart and I will miss her terribly.
