Gwen's obituary
Gwendolyn L. Vance, 80 years old of Mallory West Virginia, went to her heavenly home on July 26, 2024.
She was born on October 25, 1943 in Mallory, the daughter of the late Jesse & Eileen Hall. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 33 years Larry E. Vance, one sister Shirley Greene of Mallory WV, and two brothers Robert "Bob" Hall of Tiffin OH and Danny (Patti) Hall of Coolville OH.
She married the love of her life, Larry Vance, on July 1, 1961. They had one son Larry David (Karen) Vance of Davin WV, three grandchildren, Justin Vance of Davin WV, Kayla (Jeromie) Johnson of Davin WV, and Duke (Jen) Vance of Accoville WV. She was blessed with 4 beautiful great grandchildren who she loved dearly, Mia and Indie Johnson & Nyla and Nox Vance. They brought such joy to her life and always put a smile on her face every Sunday when they came to dinner. They always had fun at her house.
She is survived by three sisters Joann Browning of Combs Addition WV, Nancy (John) Shock of Little Rock Arkansas, and Pam (Tom) Spencer of Las Vegas Nevada. Also, many nephews, nieces, and cousins who were so loved by her.
Gwen was a member of Mallory Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at the age of 9 and took pride in singing, leading the congregation in song, helping with VBS and the ladies aid programs. She attended and became a member of Claypool United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and participated in the Ladies Aid Program. She was in the education field as a teachers assistant for nearly 50 years before retiring. She was a cheerleader in both Junior High and High School and was the first Miss Pioneer in 1958, Junior Attendant, Miss Man High, and Prom Queen.
Gwen cherished her family; her grand nephew John Greene who made several visits to encourage and lift her spirits, her nieces Sandy Adkins & Kenna Lee, her brother-in-law Emil Tomblin who took over for her sister-in-law Ruth Tomblin, whom she loved as a sister, after her passing. She cherished her special friends Hazel Doss, Debbie Ellis, Frank Combs, Charlotte Beatty, and Linda Heatherman along with many others who were very dear to her.
God was so good to her and her family, allowing her to live a very full life. He brought her through many illnesses. The Lord promised that He would never leave her and always be with her and He was!
Gwen joined the Human Gift Registry at the Joan Edwards School of Medicine where she hoped to advance the knowledge of cancer, diabetes, and kidney failure.
The family would like to thank her Doctor whom she admired and thanked God for, Chris Tipton with Lincoln Primary Care. We also want to thank her nurses with Fresenius Medical Center and the nurses & nursing assistants on the 5th floor of Logan Regional Medical Center, along with Nurse Practitioner Tammy with Dr. Harvey for their end of life care, their compassion towards the family, and their diligence in making her transition into Glory such a peaceful one.
A memorial service will be held on August 12, 2024 at Claypool United Methodist Church at Davin, WV. Service will begin at 7:00pm.
