Gwendoly's obituary
Gwendoly "Daphney" Cox (nee Malvo), 91, of Spring Hill, FL, peacefully passed away on January 27, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Gwendoly was born on October 18, 1932 in the parish of St Andrews, Jamaica. She immigrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1980 and worked at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY until 1997. Upon retiring, she used her nurturing spirit and culinary skills to open a small restaurant in Brooklyn until her final retirement in 2005. She then bought a home and relocated to Spring Hill, Florida.
Gwendolyn was a talented seamstress helping to design and make clothes for family and friends. She was also a pretty good barber and gardener and her neighbors are always commenting about her beautiful flowers and vegetable garden.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faithfulness in her daughters Juliette and Jennifer Brown; Joan Spaulding (wife of Jeffrey Spaulding) and Jacqueline Rosenthal-Grant (wife of Vernon Grant); and a son, Frank Cox. Her blessings have also multiplied through her cherished grandchildren (Simone Parara; Camille Sinclair; Kwame, Clayton and Carlton Brown; Caliph and Jabari Spaulding; and Davide, Markel, Marlon, Mosiah; Nathan, Nirissa, Noel, Nyesha and Shanique); and three great grandchildren (Malik Parara-McKay. Madison Allen, and Caiden.
She is also survived by sisters (Thema Alford and Hyacinth Malvo) a brother, Barrington Malvo and their kids. Her nieces, (Viveca, Patricia and Lorna); and nephews (Courtney and Clive) and their children. In addition are the many other friends and adopted family members (including Beverly, Jennifer, Marjorie and Joy) who lovingly refer to her as Ms Daphney, Aunt Daphney, or Mama.
