Grizzly's obituary
Grizzly Griffin passed away peacefully in his backyard on April 29, 2025, after a romp on Long Sands Beach and a bowl of beef stew.
Adopted on April 27, 2019, Grizzly's age was unknown (around 12). As Caroline's Nana used to say, he had a lot more miles on him than that. When he was found on the street and rescued in San Antonio, he had heartworm, ringworm, kennel cough, big patches missing from his rough fur, and a nail lodged in his gums. Despite all he'd been through, he embraced his new name and cuddled on the couch with his new parents as soon as he got home.
It was a relationship of unwavering loyalty and trust from that first day. Though his trauma got the best of him at times, and he was in a lot of pain, Grizzly spent six years living a full life. He traveled to 32 states and rode along for many, many thousands of miles, dipped his belly in countless bodies of water, and guarded his squeaky balls relentlessly. Through two hip replacements that never fully healed, and debilitating arthritis, Grizzly never lost his joy for swimming, squeaking, eating, booty scratches, or sleeping legs-up on the couch.
Grizz was there to lick his parents' faces when they got engaged, to nap with them after their surgeries, to rest on his mom's belly when she was too pregnant to do anything or nursing a newborn baby. He gave his little brother a year of joy, excitement, a water bowl to splash in, and a fluffy bed to roll in. (Sorry, Grizz.) Though rightfully not a fan of toddler energy, Grizzly always ran up to Graham and licked his face when he came home. Grizz instilled in Graham a true love of dogs; he pants excitedly whenever he sees one.
To know Grizzly was to know a four-legged legend. To love him was the deepest, truest, funniest, sweetest gift of a lifetime.

Please take a moment to remember Grizzly as his spirit moves on. A huge section of our hearts is forever reserved for him. It helps to imagine him zooming on beaches, wading in rivers, and chasing squirrels for eternity, pain-free.
Grizzly, thank you for showing us how much a man can evolve and grow, no matter what he's endured. And thank you for modeling the fiercest, most understanding, unconditional kind of love. We promise to keep it going.
