Gretchen's obituary

Gretchen Nicole Sutton, age 47, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Vanderbilt Hospital after a long battle with End Stage Liver Failure (ESLD).

Gretchen was born on May 27th, 1977, in Chattanooga, TN to Jerry Sutton and Sharon Koonce.

At the time of her death, Gretchen resided in Tullahoma, TN, but she grew up in the Chattanooga, TN and Sewanee, TN areas.

Gretchen had a remarkable gift of being able to be a tender and attentive caretaker. That gift especially manifested itself in her love of animals and many rescued cats and dogs found refuge in her care.

Gretchen loved cooking and all the wonders of what it would be like to travel the world and experience the culture of other nations and their food delicacies.

Gretchen was also a talented (but private) artist, and you could consider yourself lucky to have one of her creations.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Sutton; step father, Jerry Koonce; and uncle, Bill Kimbro.

Gretchen is survived by her daughter, Grace Goubeaud; her first grandchild, a grandson, who is due in January 2025; Grace’s father and Gretchen’s former partner, Ben Goubeaud; mother, Sharon Koonce; and uncle Robert (Janet) Kimbro.

If you feel moved to do so, in memory of Gretchen and in lieu of flowers, please consider a financial gift to help support her daughter Grace and forthcoming grandchild through the difficult months ahead.
