Gregory's obituary
We mourn the loss of Gregory Hernando Pereira, who departed our world too soon on January 5, 2024.
Born on March 12, 1972, Greg left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. Greg was deaf and passionate about the deaf community he connected with all around Florida and Austin, TX.
Gregory, whose personality was warm, outgoing, and always infused with a certain silliness, stood as an example of a life lived with joy and deep compassion for others. His life was at its fullest when he was around friends and family. He loved his poker games, softball, and disc golf. Greg was a major sports fan and loved watching his favorite teams like Austin FC, Miami Heat, Dolphins, Marlins, and the Texas Longhorns. Music and movies were other great loves of his. We were always amazed at how he could recognize certain songs - especially his favorite artist, Phil Collins and Genesis.
Greg is a proud graduate of Gallaudet University in 2001 and proud member of Delta Sigma Phi.
After living in Florida for over 20 years, he made the bold move to Austin, Texas in 2022 to be closer to his friends in the deaf community.
Greg loved to travel and explore and always looked forward to trips to Bogotá, Colombia, where he lived for 3 years during High School. He spoke of his love for relaxation and exploration and always dreamt of more opportunities to travel.
Gregory is survived by his loving family, his mother Mary Pereira, his father Germán Pereira, his brother David Pereira, and his sister Diana Zimmerman. His impact on them, and on all who knew him, will remain deep and profound.
Greg taught us the power of unconditional love and demonstrated it with his every action. His altruistic nature was evident in the causes and organizations close to his heart - Gallaudet Alumni of Delta Sigma Phi, Austin FC Fan Club, Center for Hearing and Communication, Deaf Night Out, and many others.
The void left by Greg's passing cannot be filled, but his legacy will continue in the memories of those he inspired, made laugh, and the lives he touched. Gregory Pereira may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
